The Island Faces KC Story

Aloha! I officially started face painting when I worked at a community center back in 2012. The director of the center asked if I’d fill in for their usual face painter, so I did and ever since then I have taken to and loved it. I do cherish each child that comes through my line and look forward to their surprise when they look in the mirror and see their fantastic faces. One summer I packed up to go see my oldest daughter and only granddaughter in Hawaii and brought along my parcel of face paints. Little did I know how valuable that time would be to my heart and soul. I managed by God’s help to secure a couple of different face painting venues right there by the ocean in the heart of Kona’s busiest Ali’i Drive. At the time I had no business cards and was looking around for some ideas. I was inspired by a local Hawaiian face painter and one day lo and behold I spotted her at their friendly Wal-Mart. Being the social butterfly that I am, I flagged her down and inundated her with tons of questions pertaining to our mutual artistic interest. She gave me one of her business cards and I really liked how colorful and easy to read they were. Looking over my own business cards one day, I notice there were palm trees in the background. It made me think of all the special times I was able to see my daughter and granddaughter face-to-face and meet all their tanned Hawaiian friends. How endearing those times were for me. I always like to kick off my flip flops and just unwind in the cool gentle Hawaiian breeze, thankful that I have been carried off to this faraway exotic place of wonder and awe. How applicable this was for my business and business cards. If you haven’t guessed it by now, the islands are my happy place, along with crafting and face painting. Hence the name Island Faces KC. (How fitting) It’s like that island vibe followed me back to Kansas City. As far as face painting goes, it is my hope that every person who comes through my line and sits in my comfy director’s chair will also find their happy place—full of wonder and delight. ~Mahalo!
